If Ryou had been paying attention to news about the possession attempt, then he should have heard about the astounding failure it was. Not coincidentally, there's a knocking on his door right now.

Oh, Ryou had heard, but that didn't make him feel any better about having to sit it all out. Maybe things wouldn't have changed, but now he can't even say he tried.

The knock on his door caught him by surprised, and after putting his work down he headed to the door. "Hello...? Oh, Dante." Brow creasing the moment he saw him, there were quite clearly some hard feelings.

"Hey, kid." He responded in stride. Dante was used to that face, but that didn't mean he knew how to handle it tactfully.

"Things went south. I came to make sure Yin's not dead." Yin could have contacted Dante or Zuko telepathically if something was up, but if she was cross, then maybe she wouldn't have. It was a legitimate concern, at least enough that Dante made a bee-line for Ryou's after the attempt.

Dante may be taking this all in stride, but Ryou wasn't. He hasn't even invited him in yet, instead opting to simply stand in the doorway with an increasingly distraught look on his face.

"Of course she's not dead... I said I'd protect her. Did you not even trust me to do that right?" Because after everything Dante told him to get him to stay home for Yin, if he couldn't even trust him with the task he'd given him...it was adding insult to injury.

"Oh for the love of-" Even if Dante craved attention and was fairly laid back about a lot of things, he was generally not considered to be a people person. Moments like this demonstrate just why that's the case. Sure, he eventually planned on apologizing for the worst of what he had done, but he really didn't see how what he just said was offensive. "How many times do I have to tell you this has nothing to do with you, kid? Can't a guy just be afraid for his kid's life without someone taking it as a personal attack?"

"Ah...," Ryou immediately regretted his words, tilting his head in an apology. "I'm sorry, that was out of line."

Although he disagreed that this had nothing to do with him, he ignored that and went on. "Yin-chan's fine. She's napping."

"After this whole mess? I don't blame her." He said with a chuckle. God, he's going to take a nice, long nap when this is all over.

If this had been anyone else, there would be an awkward silence here. However, Dante loves talking too much to bother with that bit, so he keeps on talking.

"I appreciate everything you've done during this whole fiasco, kid." He really had no idea how to apologize, but this was... something? He honestly has no idea.

Slowly, a small smile creeps onto Ryou's face. Even if it was a poor excuse for an apology, being thanked for anything seemed to help heal Ryou's bruised ego.

"Ah, it was no problem, really. I just did what I had to do to keep Yin-chan safe."

Oh good, that worked. Dante continued under the assumption that they understand each-other now. "Glad you understand."

"I do now...," he scratched his cheek a little bashfully. "I just wasn't very happy about it at the time."

Or until Dante thanked him a few seconds ago.

Dante nodded. "I kinda got that impression. Well, all's well that ends well, then."

At least, Dante hopes. God, please don't let him get cross again.
